Kudu for Sale

Summit Whitetails and Exotics has trophy kudu for sale. If you are looking to buy or purchase kudu for your ranch, please read the following information about these incredibly majestic animals.
Many people refer to the kudu as the African elk or the grey ghost. This is due to their majestic presence as well as their ability to disappear into the woods quietly. The kudu is a woodland antelope found throughout eastern and southern Africa. Kudus have a narrow body with long legs, large, rounded ears and their coats can range from brown/bluish-grey to reddish-brown. They possess between 6-12 vertical white stripes along their torso. The head tends to be darker in color than the rest of the body, and exhibits a small white stripe which runs between the eyes. Male kudus tend to be much larger than the females. The males also have large manes running along their throats. Their horns have two to three twists in an overall v-pattern and can reach up to six feet along the curve, but have an average length of 47 inches. The horns diverge slightly as they slant back from the head. The horns do not begin to grow until the male is between the age of 6-12 months, twisting once at around 2 years of age, and not reaching two and a half twists until they are 6 years old. Males weigh 450-650 lbs, and stand about 6 feet tall at the shoulder. Their body length is 6-8 feet. Females weigh 275-450 lbs and on average stand 47 inches tall at the shoulder. The females are hornless, and do not have beards or nose markings.

Kudu Behavior and Breeding

Kudu may be active at any time during the day or night. Their large ears make them sensitive to sound. If startled, they disperse with high jumps and tails curled upward. They often run short distances without stopping to look back. Kudu have a number of vocalizations, including barks, grunts, hooting bleats and whimpers.
They are largely browsers with a diet comprised of leaves, creepers, dry seed pods and fruits. They will stand on hind legs to reach leaves and flowers from trees and bushes.
A benefit of keeping kudu on the ranch is that they help keep the browse line on trees up, so you can see under trees easily to spot game on your ranch. They are able to breed and give birth all year with female gestation lasting seven to eight months; giving birth to one young. Mothers will separate from the herd prior to giving birth and newborn kudu are weaned for six months. Both sexes mature at a year and a half and live an average of 15 years.
