Père David's Deer for Sale

At Summit Whitetails & Exotics we have premium Père David's deer for sale. If you would like to purchase Pere David's deer, please read the following information about these great animals.
Père David's deer is a species of deer that is currently near extinction in the wild, native to the subtropics of China. Their Chinese and Japanese names are translated as "four unlikes", because the animal has been described as having "the hoofs of a cow but not a cow, the neck of a camel but not a camel, antlers of a deer but not a deer, the tail of a donkey but not a donkey".
The adult Père David's deer reaches a head-and-body length of up to 6.2-7.2 feet and stands about 3.9 feet tall at the shoulder. The tail is relatively long for a deer, measuring 20-26 inches when straightened. Weight is between 300 and 440 lbs. The head is long and slender with large eyes. The coat is reddish tan in the summer, changing to a dull gray in the winter. There is a mane on the neck and throat.
The branched antlers are unique in that the long tines point backward, while the main beam extends almost directly upward. There may be two pairs per year. The summer antlers are the larger set, and are dropped in November, after the summer rut. The second set, if they appear, are fully grown by January, and fall off a few weeks later.

Behavior and Breeding
Père David's deer graze mainly on grass and aquatic plants but they also feed on leaves and relish acorns. They enjoy wading in water up to their shoulders and are good swimmers. Rutting stags are very noisy, making loud and rhythmic bellows. They will stand and "box" when competing with other males and will endure significant weight loss during the rut (peaks in August and September) as a result of increased activity and fasting. Females have nine-month gestation period, with one or two fawns being born at a time. Young are weaned for approximately 10 months and reach sexual maturity between 18 and 24 months. They typically live 18 years. This rare and very unique deer is a great addition to any ranch.
They have bred well and thrived well in Central Texas conditions. Everyone will be asking you, “What is that animal?” You will be glad you are one of the few ranches with this special breed of deer. Père David's deer also tend to be easy to spot when driving around and provide for nice eye candy for you and your guests.
